Other causes for the turning of the steering wheel causing the lights to turn off:
1). Bent light rod.
2). The older repo light switch rods were too thick and would bind in the shaft.

The bail just slips off the switch cover and then the housing along with wires comes off the bottom of the steering column.

Inside you will find the "spider"..should be no need to take that off....

Leave the steering wheel switch lever at the 6-o'clock position when it's time to re-assemble...

a lot of time when the light turn on or off when turning the steering wheel is caused be the horn rod being bent. the horn rod needs to be straight. also some if not most reproduction horn rods are bigger in diameter than the original so you can NOT use the upper bushing. on the new wiring most venders use the wrong bullet type ends where they connect to the head lights. the wrong ends do not always make a good contectBratton`s has the correct end part #20421

The switch isn't supposed to turn with the steering wheel.

If it turns with the steering wheel, follow the advice just given above.

Ok thanks everyone. from what I understand of the truck it's totally original with the exception on the fiberglass fenders. I bought it from the family of the original owner. Is there a way for the horn rod to get bent somehow? my switch does not rotate with the steering wheel. I'm wondering if I've got a ground issue with the fiberglass fenders. Its got a very heavy paint job. (thick)
1955cj5 what is the spider your talking about??
