Mascot... Airplane
Has anyone seen this mascot before?
My son just recently graduated from college with a piloting degree, I found this mascot in an antique store. The price is high but the gentleman is willing to negotiate. I am not looking for a value, but rather information. The stamping on it says; Krone & Sebek, Chicago. I have googled and found the company was in business producing moscots in the 1920's and 1930's. I just want to make sure it is not from JC Whitney or something simular from the 60's and 70's (and/or a trophy top)... Any information would help. In addition, please fill free to post a picture of the mascot on your car in this thread, but I am hoping a collector will reply.

Re: Mascot... Airplane
I've seen original airplane mascots that look like yours sell for HIGH dollar. It is hard to tell from your photo if it is a repo or original. Original ones aren't usually all shiny and pristine looking like yours. I'm not a mascot expert but the important thing is that you really like it and enjoy it. I personally think that you have a really cool mascot. Nice.... This is something I haven't seen talked about since I have been on Ford Barn. I like mascots and unique motometers. I have a nice Boyle Radio Motometer. I don't put it on my car except for parades and shows.

Re: Mascot... Airplane
I haven't seen that one, but I agree that it's pretty pristine and shiny for something that is supposed to be that old.
There's one in this thread that looks pretty close if you scroll down a bit. Very cool project overall, http://www.mtfca.com/discus/messages/179374/184365.html Last edited by 5window; 02-05-2017 at 12:34 PM. |

Re: Mascot... Airplane
It looks pretty kool to me. The manufacturer is legit (I think) It's just in suspiciously good condition. Some things are. Maybe someone bought it to put it on their Ford and never got around to it and it spent it's life in the box until cousin Snively got ahold of it and sold it to the antiques guy for $10.

Re: Mascot... Airplane
Those Air Ford ones are always big bucks on E-bay. I picked up this one real cheap on a snipe bid, but I don't think it is old?

Re: Mascot... Airplane
Thanks for all of the replies and link.
I too thought it was awful shinny, but I haven't found any information about the company after the 1930's. For as mascots from this company, Krone & Sebek on the internet, I have found an art deco bird, polar bear and a radiator cap, but no plane... I would like to find out if the company survived the depression.... I am also assuming if it was a reproduction it would not have the original companies name on the bottom. but then again they might of been still around in the '60's.

Re: Mascot... Airplane
The original has much more detail especially in the cylinders.

Re: Mascot... Airplane
I have seen this one on the internet. Some of the info implies it lights up.

Re: Mascot... Airplane
Krone & Sebek made cheap mascots with a lower level of detail. I think the mascot is genuine, but I also think that the price is double what others I have been looking at on eBay have sold for! The plane with light-up windows has been reproduced in cast aluminum but the pot metal ones are generally originals due to the cost of reproducing them that way. I would think that if you wanted one to use on a car that the originals may be more brittle and a new one would be more desirable... my opinion only, and may not be worth th $.02

Re: Mascot... Airplane
That is cool
It has that art déco look which was prevalent at the time.

Re: Mascot... Airplane
Don Sommers American Arrow Corp makes some very nice reproduction radiator mascots including this "Supermarine Seaplane" (only $750.00) (click on the photo to link to the American Arrow Corp web page):
....or how about his 1928-1929 repro Quail mascot (only $685.00): By the way, all of the American Arrow Corp radiator mascots are made out of stainless steel. The airplanes, both biplanes and single winged planes (similar to yours) are being reproduced: Brad in Maryland Last edited by Brad in Germany; 02-07-2017 at 10:06 PM. |
