Default New web site and free catalogs

I have finished my New website and listed all the things I Mfg although some things are of limited supply they are still listed.

I am getting ready to print a catalog for those that like to have something on the coffee table.

I had the design my website in publisher this time and plan to up date it to a different format later some of you may not be able to open if your browser does not support Microsoft publisher.
any way it is under Stipe Machine for now hope ever one can open it....

The web site came up. I could not get past the home page. I clicked on everything and nothing happened.

I thought so also at first. Try moving the cursor to the blank area just below and next to the lettering but not on the lettering.

Bill, PLEASE make the page in something other than Microsoft ANYthing! Many of us "out here" cannot view anything but the home page, no links, etc.

Not to mention tha the file size for downloading the page is nearly 500,000 bytes (not even counting the images)! (Typical Micro$oft bloat!)

Using Chrome, the logo in the upper left corner is missing and no buttons below "Home". Works fine with IE.

Looks good in IE (which I rarely open). Only Microsoft can create a "Microsoft only" page AND generate 9,804 lines of code for a page that could be done in a few hundred!

With that said, you did a nice job Bill. I think most folks use IE so it's likely not a huge issue.

Works in IE but not in Firefox, which I use. Site looks good, but in the future you may wish to make changes to accommodate more than one browser and not limit your customer base.

This must be a joke. I just tried the site again. I could not open a single thing- double click, right hand click, reloaded and nothing worked. Why would someone have a web page that nobody can use except a few?

Using IE, the site naviagation buttons seem strange. The top half of the buttons don't work but the bottom half of the buttons work fine. As long as I only click on the bottom half of the navigation buttons, the site works fine for me.

If you want to set up a site with some less than wonderful but easy to use with limited technical knowledge software, Godaddy's Website Tonight software is easy to use. It is not as functional as some other software, but easy to get a site up and running with no experience. I use it on the two websites that I run.

Yes, there are some bugs to work out. This is just a trial site to get the info out there until a better one can be created. The site works if you open it using Internet Explorer.

Bill, welcome to the wonderful world of creating a website! Firefox did not display much, but IE 8 did work fine. As far as it not working on other browsers, I am guessing that Microsoft didn't validate (or attempt) operation with other web browsers. I've been using the web development tool provided by Yahoo for my clubs website and although not real flashy, does seem to work across the different web browsers. Actually it's the hosting site that has the "problem" they need to support Microsoft code.

IE is loosing market share at a fast rate. Firefox & Google Chrome has taken over and I even suspect FF will be the next IE in terms of market share loss.

IE has tons of security issues, and is slow compared to others. I use Firefox and Chrome and haven't used IE in a few years now.

Check out this link, it's rather interesting! It may give you some ideas on how to build your new site based on browser popularity.

To my knowledge that would not make any difference. Microsoft based servers and Unix based servers (or variants) have different conventions and limitations for sure. However the code in Bill's pages is all client side code, i.e., decoded by your browser software. Nothing is "server side" and decoded or processed on request. If it were an incompatible server issue it would not display on IE (your "client" software) either.

No, this has nothing to do with the hosting site. It is strictly a function of what was prepared to define the page. The hosting site only stores and returns to the user's browser what the original page creator made. It is the browser that will or will not present the proper image to the user.

Micro$oft is notorious for ignoring industry standards and going off and producing "stuff" that only operates in a Micro$oft world. True from the very beginning of the company. The attitude is "We're Micro$oft, we will tell YOU what the standard is!".

Publisher is probably the worst of the lot. Will not interoperate with anything, even other Micro$oft products in many cases.

An alternative that is likely not palatable to most is to learn how HTML and CSS works and code the page itself instead of using a high order tool. (Gotta' be a bit of a geek to do this! )

Bill,

Below is a link to a web page that shows how to fix your MS Publisher web site so other browsers can view it correctly. I have not tried it since I do not use MS Publisher.

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/o...5-89e47d1a07a1

Sometimes I use MS Word to create a web page. When I do I usually I take out all of the garbage that MS Word sticks in the beginning of the HTML code. The only per-packaged web tool I use is one that creates slide shows. I generally write perl, java or C code. Thus I can do almost anything I want to do. The problem I have with packaged web building programs is that you have to give up flexibility to get ease of use.
