Ford Fire Extinguisher
Hi guys,
I have a 1950 F-2, and recently starting looking through a 1950 Ford Accessory pamphlet. One of the items listed is a dealer option fire extinguisher. Has anyone ever come across one of these? I would really like to find one for my truck, just wanted to see if anyone else has one. I know there are a ton of different period fire extinguishers, I'm interested in seeing the exact one from the listing. |

Re: Ford Fire Extinguisher
Thanks 19Fordy, I have seen those.
I should have been more specific, if anyone has a photo of theirs installed in their truck, I'd love to see it. Also, if anyone knows where I could find one, I'd appreciate it. I've searched all around and haven't been able to source one. |

Re: Ford Fire Extinguisher
FYI those extinguishers used carbon tetrachloride which is considered a dangerous chemical.

I don’t think anyone would consider using one on an actual fire nowadays, just for display.

Re: Ford Fire Extinguisher
I have one mounted inside my '33. Found it on-line auction and had to have it. Used existing bolts inside the cab/roof assembly to mount the bracket. No extra holes.

Yes, I saw that. Asking price can be very different from sold price though. Previous auction listings that I found all sold between $50-$250, depending on condition and I would guess how publicized the auction was.
Thanks for the photos of your trucks guys, those look really good. |

Re: Ford Fire Extinguisher
I did read that some of the earlier versions of this fire extinguisher had a blue oval, but they are much rarer than the red versions.

Re: Ford Fire Extinguisher
There is also a fire extinguisher with FoMoCo in the oval. I believe Ford started using the FoMoCo logo during 1949. You mentioned you have a 1950 truck....Ford or FoMoCo?

If you buy one, make sure it has the bracket. The correct bracket is the hardest thing to find in my opinion. It’s a nice talking piece in the truck. There are a lot of cool original accessories for the trucks. Personally I like the engine compartment lamp the best!

Re: Ford Fire Extinguisher
None of my Pop's F1s or the F3 came with them but the F6 we had did.

Re: Ford Fire Extinguisher
I would be fine with either. All of the original ads that I’ve seen for 50-51 still show the FORD tags. Though, I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t update catalog photos just because their label changed.

Re: Ford Fire Extinguisher
The old F6 was a fairly large truck. Ours had a hydraulic dump body for hauling grain and we also had the stock racks for hauling cattle. This 1949 F6 was the first new truck my Pop purchased when he took over the family farm after the war. It was a bright yellow truck so it stuck out like a sore thumb but Ford used to have demonstrator trucks that were about the same color of yellow. I didn't learn about the demonstrators until old yeller was already traded off for another big Ford truck. I don't know if it was a demonstrator or not but it did come with the fire extinguisher and it was still in there when Pop traded it off.
The three F1s we had were purchased used but the 1952 F3 was purchased new. It was my Pop's first new pickup. It didn't come with a fire extinguisher but it may have been optional. |
