Re: Where to purchase car paint
It'd be helpful to others if you updated your profile to show where you are, maybe someone in your state or near your town could help.
Me, I'm in the western suburbs of Chicago and I can get paint mixed at a couple different local auto body supply stores. Depends on what brand I want. If I'm using DuPont Centari I'll go to Terrace Supply and they will mix it according to whatever paint code or formula you need.

Call the Dupont Tech Line 1-800-338-7668. they will fax you any vintage paint codes for Dupont paints for pints to gallons.
Also, I have no personal experience with this company but they advertise selling nitrocellulose lacquers. http://www.hiberniaautorestorers.com...e-laquers.html |

Re: Where to purchase car paint
I'm on a real budget with my 36' p\u, so I look for the best bargain's, and not worried about exact color codes, just picked a color I like from TCP Global. I ordered online their acrylic urethane kit, comes with 1 gallon of paint, hardener and reducer, strainers, and mixing sticks, also got 1 gallon Feather fill heavy primer with hardener , shipped to my door for $184.00 Best deal around! I first got a quote on the same type paint in Dupont, from a local store, only half as much paint, and it was $420.00

I used them on my F1 and am pleased with the product. About 1/3 of the price of Dupont. |

Re: Where to purchase car paint
Old paint codes will not work with todays paints. Someone who knows what they are doing should be able to give you a proper code with modern paints, or mix what you need pretty darn close with the computer match method.

Re: Where to purchase car paint
If you have a PPG paint supplier near.... you can call the main office of PPG 800-647-6050...Give them the Make, Year, and color name.....They will forward the formula to the supplier...I was looking for 1947 Maize Yellow and got it....

Re: Where to purchase car paint
I like DuPont paint products but PPG has a better selection of original colors and can usually just look at the computer for the formula. I also believe when buying paint you get what you pay for. Cheap paint is exactly that cheap paint and I would not use anything but name brand products and use that brand all the way from bare metal through the finish coats. Too much work and too much money to take a chance on off brand products.

Re: Where to purchase car paint
Call me crazy, but I like the smell of DuPont Centari. I used it on this Mustang, Wimbledon White. Considering painting my 36 pickup the same:

Re: Where to purchase car paint
Here's 2 good sites I use quite often.....Shows paint chip sheets, PPG, Sherwin Williams, Dupont, etc numbers.
http://paintref.com/paintref/index.shtml Dupont's Color Library- in some cases shows chip sheets as well. http://pc.dupont.com/hcl/servlet/com...1&carType=Ford |
