Default Which head studs/bolts go in to water jacket

Which holes in the block go in to the water jacket areas or which holes may leak after studs/bolts are installed and don't seal. I used Permatex Right Stuff on the new studs, studs from Mac's, (last item I got from them & will ever get from them) hope that's not the problem. Its a 59 block, everything new, bored, balanced etc, my 1st attempt at a rebuilding, am really pleased with it except for the stud weeping. Don't have to much faith in the torque wrench I have and will be getting my new Snap On by end of week and will run it up to temp, let it cool, back of nuts 1/4 turn then re-torque to 45 ft lbs
Have been looking to find out which head bolt holes go through to water jackets but cant find anything, if you know would you kindly list by torque sequence number based on pattern attached here, thanks for any comments, ........ cheers, ...... Chris

Not difficult - just stick a thin rod in each head stud hole and if it doesn't bottom out, that stud will need sealant.

TagMan, yes, thought of that but engine is assy'd and I don't want to remove studs, I see which ones are leaking but would like to know how many are not leaking if they do infact go into the water jacket areas. Am wondering if a leaking stud might be due to poor gasket seal or could that not happen, no bubbling or air bubbles in rad and no sign of water in oil

Most, if not all go into water.

Permatex makes a thread sealant; Right Stuff is more of a gasket maker.

In general, head bolt leaks are not a gasket or torque problem. There can be tiny water leaks through the threads, even if dipped in anti-seize. In my opinion, it is more important to have anti-seize than sealant when it comes time to remove the studs.

I just installed a rebuilt 59A/B and two studs leaked a little. The builder said that most will stop on their own after a while, and they did. You can also use stop-leak in the radiator.

Some on this site have had success using some RTV just under the nut on the offending stud. Simple.

leaking head studs are a way of life for Fords, the water will migrate up the stud threads and they will eventually seal. put stop leak in and continue to drive. had one stud on my 41 that took about 1000 miles to seal

It is easier to tell you which ones don't go into water. Using your torque sequence drawing numbers 1, 2, 21, and 24 are dry on a 59.
