Not Again!!
Remember a few weeks ago when I installed my oil pan before putting on my 11'' flywheel on my 39 221? well, last week I ran my new engine on the test stand and everything went great! Today my new pilot bushing came in so I installed it and when I grabbed the clutch and pressure plate to install, the pressure plate would not fit in the bell housing! Dang!!, I have to pull the pan again! It's been several years ago that I did the t-5 swap but I just forgot about having to pull the pan. wishing I would have had my flywheel re drilled to except the 9'' clutch and pressure plate now!
Anyway, while I'm talking pressure plates, does anyone have a picture of the proper bolt used to mount the pressure plate? I think I have found the right ones, but not sure. the ones I think that go to it are about 3/4'' long with about a 1/4'' shank. let me know what you think. |

Re: Not Again!!
Felix-
For a pressure plate you need the bolt on the left. Note the long shoulder. A standard bolt on the right is for comparison. Tom |

Re: Not Again!!
I should have listened to everyone when they said "change out that big ol 11'' clutch and flywheel for the 9''.. My old 11'' worked great! and was so smooth when shifting I just didn't want to chance what I thought was a good thing, so I just opted to have my flywheel lightened.

Re: Not Again!!
Oh, and by the way,If you ever thought about draining your oil and straining it with a paint strainer to see if there was anything in it, DON'T! Bad idea! So I get a paint strainer and a brand new container and funnel and carefully open that BIG oil plug and as fast as greased lightening, I had four quarts of oil on the garage floor! Ugh!!

Re: Not Again!!
I probably should not admit this, but I have been alternately laughing at myself and cussing myself for a few months now and have not remedied the problem I created.
I had a 37 engine rebuilt and used the 35 pickup intake and heads, redid the trans, went through the rear end, new springs, recored radiator, new exhaust...completely assembled the chassis for my 35 pickup, put the body back on, hooked up the pedals, installed the firewall insulator...and came to the sudden realization I had not installed the throwout bearing. Pretty clever, huh? |

Re: Not Again!!
I've stuck back what I understand to be a truck oil pan for my rebuild. It has a removable cover that bolts to the rear of pan. I think the clutch and pressure plate will pass through not sure about the flywheel. Anybody else using one of these?
