Default 1934 Gas Tank Capacity

Ok -Am testing my hydrostatic gauge when the gauge was reading just under 1/4 tank it took 10 US gallons to fill it (actually 38.46 litres = 8.46 Imperial Gallons) I just need to confirm the tank capacity to check how accurate the gauge is. I'm pretty sure my tank is an aftermarket Bob Drake so ? 11 US Gallons capacity (ie the gauge is a little optimistic)

I think the factory tanks were 14 gallon.

'34 Owners Manual says 14 US Gallons....

I think the gas tank for a 1934 car is 11 gallons.

Here is the URL for a Bob Drake tank for a 1934 car:

https://www.bobdrake.com/FordItem.as...5-6a01a6d4c64f

Drake has a 14 gallon tank listed for a Victoria or pickup.

I'm pretty sure that 11 gallons is correct for an original tank as I have run out of gas and it wouldn't take more than 11 gallons to fill it.

Hmm My tank is after market (as it has the anti gas spill feature on the neck) so may well be only 11 gallons . I assume that all aftermarkets were made by Bob Drake or his supplier. At least I had 12 hours of believing I had an accurate fuel gauge! -Karl

My 33 has had a 35 electrical gauge fitted way before I got it,it is nice and accurate, the 34 has the stock hydrostatic gauge, its is reasonably accurate but if you dont use it often,(like me) it seems to go out of whack.but after a few miles seems to settle down .

The Drake tanks are 11 gallons, and to use the original hydrostatic sending unit, you need to use an adapter ring, also provided by Drake. This adapter raises the sending unit slightly, thus throwing off accuracy (when my tank was full it showed 3/4) I found that i had to fine tune the gauge using thin brass rods as described in the service bulletin for the gauge and it is now very accurate.

Yep I think that's the problem with my one. I've tried calibrating it with rods but the rods pushed the Empty up as well . I have an old original tank It needs opening up , cleaning and sealing plus some leaks plugged and some dents pounded out but I think long term will be the best option.
