What is the biggest cause for water pumps to crack?

I don't know what the biggest cause is but if your pump casting cracked while the engine was running I'd check the fan out. It may be way out of balance and ready to fail.

The best I can find out is there were several companies manufacturing the water pumps for Ford and the tolerances were not the same. The crack is at the rear bearing housing and goes to the upper mounting hole. I always have a problem down loading photo from my pictures.
