Re: What kind of brake drums are these
Does the car have mechanical or hydraulic brakes? They are definitely not Model A. I have worked on them in a 36 Ford.

Re: What kind of brake drums are these
They may be late '31 if they are 11 inches in diameter. They would have been added after the car left the factory and are definitely a better drum. If they are 12 inches in diameter they are '32 to '35 but I can't nail it down any better than that.

Most likely 35 backing plates w/31 drums. Maybe BCCHOPIT will chime in??

Re: What kind of brake drums are these
Paul, why do you think they are 35 backing plates? They look like 11 inch A to me.The 32 up brakes are completely different. The actuating lever sticks up on the A,it hangs down on the later ones. The kingpin head sticks ahead of the kingpin on the A,it sticks out behind it on the 32 and up.I collected a bunch of later 12 inch brake stuff years ago, thinking I was going to put some nice 12 inch cast brakes on my A.Not an easy conversion.I still have a bunch of 12 inch brake drums hanging around from that pipe dream.

Keith: Sorry I didn't blow up the pictures. You're probably right. I know the 35's are "basically" bolt on.

Re: What kind of brake drums are these
Looks like I have late 31's, . I sent my steering arms off for rebuilt ones from A&L. But seeing how our postal service don't know east from west. they went to MO. instead of CT. that was on the 9th of Jan. The tracking # shows they left Hazelwood MO. on the 11th of Jan. that's the last they've been heard of. Hard to tell where there at. Lots of luck trying to talk to some one at the postal service, even though they have a $ 50.00 insurance, Probably can kiss that goodbye to. So while I'm waiting on them, thought I would do some brake work. want to put the brake equalizer ( floater) on the front. tomorrow I'll take it all apart and clean it up and post some more pictures so I know exactly what I have before ordering parts.

Re: What kind of brake drums are these
They are Rocky Mountain brake drums and if indeed they are 11" they were for a Model A. I would like to add they are very dangerous and should be removed from service immediately!
Send them to me (I will pay shipping of course) and I will properly and safely depose of them. Talking my old drums off as we speak in WV dusty |

Re: What kind of brake drums are these
They are commonly mis-labeled as "Rocky Mountain Drums!" Those were for T's. What you have are stock LATE 31 drums. They came with cast iron rears.
