Default 37 ford trans.

1937 ford with a 48 merc engine. i need schooling on removing the trans for a rebuild and i would like to also change the clutch etc. HELP...

Here is my story. I changed this transmission.

I did not do the clutch, but I will do it eventually. Was told by some smart Ford folks to do the Clutch and Flywheel together. So the engine will have to come out.

To do just the trans, you will have to take the seat out and take the floor apart. Put the car on Jack Stands. Disconnect the brake cables from the brake cross shaft. Disconnect the clutch. Disconnect the speedo cable. Un bolt the shocks and the rear spring. Remove the rear end/torque tube clamshell at the trans mount and slide the whole thing back a foot. Support the rear of the engine with a jack and good piece of wood. Disconnect the rear trans mounts. Jack the engine up a bit so it is sticking up a little bit and then unbolt the trans. You should be able to muscle the trans right out.


The first two books in the top row give a step by step for removing the trans and or engine.
