Ford 1963,1964 and 1968 Indy 260/289 Engines

The plug got pulled on racing at Ford hard around 1970 as noted before.


Mickey Thompson worked with the Chevy Indy crusade in same time period.


Chevy Indy V8's.Chrysler was MIA.Never did hear the story why that was so.


You can always just go for a drive in your 260 Falcon and make racing noises as you go through curves.

There is one of these engines (picture) along with a Lincoln V12 (stock) on engine stands in the lobby of the Ford Engineering dynamometer building in Dearborn, MI.

I don't think a person would get very far with a stock 260 block. When Ford got real serious about racing, just about all the parts were special built. The later 289 block was beefier due to what they learned doing all that stuff but it was even changed for the 66 model year so that it could take more abuse.
