Default 56 Merc & 56 Crown Vic Winshield

Need some advice on installing the windshield in a 56 Merc. There is a long SS Molding on the front of the top/roof on the Mercury Montclair and Crown Vic. Can the windshield be installed if the top molding is already in place?

NO. As I recall, you need to remove the top trim strip and the stanchion trim strips on the sides. The top piece is held on with large trim clips underneath. I think you have to take down the front portion of the headliner to access the fasteners for the clips. The side pieces have some little screws that hold it to the back of the windshield stanchion. After removing those, you can pull the trim strip toward the back to remove it.
The bottom trim is embedded in a groove in the windshield rubber gasket and it comes out with the windshield (and must be installed in the gasket before the windshield is re-installed in the window flange.)
