Default Oil Pans Early Version vs Later Version

Gents, I swapped out my later version oil pan for a period correct (early 28) version pan that has the clean out. When I say the clean out, I mean you can drop the oil pump without removing the entire pan. How here is the question: Can anyone confirm that the earlier oil pan takes less oil than the later version? The dip stick reads higher with the later version pan with the same amount of oil as I added prior; therefore, the earlier version takes less oil to mark the stick than it did with the later pan. Clear as mud eh??

Bottom line, an oil change took 4.25 liters of oil in the past. Now it takes slightly less an 4 liters to mark the stick in the same spot.

Are you allowing for the dipper tray? I may not have thought this out correctly but if you were used to one quantity and then changed pans and had to add more oil than your normal oil change amount that might be the difference? Like I said I may need to re-read your post.

I collect oil pans and can tell you, the early pan is the same size as the later one. The dipper trays are identical except for the very earliest ones used for the X rods. You are probably not allowing for the amount of oil in the valve galley.

The pans may be the same size but is the capacity if the dipper tray the same? Sounds like you old dipper held a bit more than the new.

Either that or it is just messing with you for measuring in metric.

Dipper trays from the early change to Nov.31 are the same. The Dec. 31 was the same as was the 32 4 cylinder except for the addition of holes to facilitate oil return to the pan.

Lads, I can not explain it however, I am adding 250 ml less than before with the earlier style pan and reading the same mark on the dip stick. At least it is not running out the rear seal
