Default 8BA distributor adjustment

The distributor on our rebuilt 8BA is a NOS Ford. I recently read a thread that mentioned lubing the cam so I need to do that and plan on using lubriplate in the morning. I figured since it was NOS, I didn’t need to mess with adjusting it, but read in the manual tonight it still should be checked. What is the best tension scale to use for adjusting the spring tension?

Also when I was installing it, I put a little 3in1 oil on the springs but also the points which I think is a no no. How should I clean the points face of residual oil?

Spray a dollar bill ( finest emery cloth out there) with brake clean or laquer thinner and run between the contacts. Be carefull using lubriplate as its pretty thin. Suggest using a dab of wheel bearing grease....

For lubricating the cam and rubbing block, use only the grease specifically made for that purpose. It is formulated not to soften and run off at high temperatures and to adhere to the cam and not get spun off.

Adjustment of the spring tension should be done by monitoring the RPM vs advance.
Mac has the specs for that on this web page.
