Default 1930 Cabriolet pass door lock question

Hi,

I just put my original passenger door lock back in and when I turn the key so the door opens, it seems fine and the key comes out and lock stays where it belongs.

But when I try to lock the door, it does lock, but when I pull the key out the entire inner key cylinder comes out. I can put it back in and all seems fine, but what am I missing to keep the lock internals inside the car?

I see what I think were tiny oil holes, and I do have the keeper screw in that holds the lock assembly in place on the side of the door. The problem is the insides of the lock come out.

thanks,
Kim

either you have the wrong lock cylinder or someone removed the cover on the original that holds the lock together. on the original there is a cover that is crimped around the outside edge of the lock cylinder together.

Thanks. I took it out and looked more closely and it has cracked so the retainer ring broke off as mentioned above.

Now to make matters worse, the keeper screw in the door to hold the lock housing broke off inside.

Pandora strikes again. Best to leave her alone for a while.

The original keeper screw is only about 1/4 inch long and is slotted . When seated against the lock it does go quite deep into the door wood . I have not seen one broken because it is so short . But you might be right . Norm
