Default 31 Ford Model A Ice Cream Truck

48 Ford 112.jpg48 Ford 112.jpgI thought you guys on he Model A Forum would enjoy this... I found these pics of my dad's Model A ice cream truck that he bought in 1970. If i remember he drove it about 100 miles from Bay City,Mi to Detroit where i grew up. I still remember him coming down the street pulling up in front of the house and my mom shaking her head. lol He got it dirt cheap! Really didn't need much. Had it cleaned up put some stripes on it and had a sign painter do the lettering.. Mr. A Ice Cream. He drove that truck thru the streets of Detroit all summer. Had a dry ice box to keep ice cream cold. Henry Ford Museum wanted it, but he wouldn't sell... Finally sold in 71, If i remember right they were only 2 in existence. It is a factory ice cream truck, wasn't altered at all. I sure wish i knew where it was today!! Ken

My new favorite A of all time. I'd love to have it in my garage! We can only hope it is carefully stored somewhere for one of us lucky souls to stumble across one day and put it back on the road where it belongs

I saw one at French Lick last summer at the national meet.

I posted several pictures of it, and a search should find them.

I believe the one at French Lick was the same one that was at Gilmore Museum and has it's home in Posen, MI.

That Truck would really make a killing today --selling ice cream...Kids love both old cars and ice cream.

Here is a brochure created by Joe Hornacek, owner of the Good Humor Ice Cream Truck in the Model A Museum at the Gilmore complex. It gives details and pictures of the restoration of this fantastic truck. Hope you find this interesting. It is definitely worthwhile to see it in person at the Model A Museum! Another good reason to take a trip to the museum, especially during the annual Model A day at the museum on September 19th.
