alternator

I would like to know if Ford has a true 1 wire alternator like the G.M. to replace the alternator/regulator combo. from the 60's Ford? This would be for a 390 FE.

Many ofr us use and love the 3G Ford, much superior to anything GM ever made but 2 of those pesky wires with those mysterious electrons inside. You will need a hot from the switch.

Yes, I've used a Ford 1 wire for years. with no problems

Technically not a one wire in the same sense as a GM where the only wire is the B+. I call them a 2 wire. Also not sure on the green wire needing to be a resistance wire, not saying it shouldn't but all I've ever done is clip the plug from the donor car and wire it in with common primary wire.

It may be easier to use what is generally called a GM alternator. Just call it a John Deere alternator, or Cat, or whatever the occasion calls for. The Delco was used in nearly everything at one time or another.

I didn't know about those. I wonder what they did to eliminate the ign hot lead. Not much I'm guessing for $54. I've always used the $10 junkyard ones.

I have a DB's high torque starter and that same DB alternator on my '54 with a 302 going on five years. A lot of guys in my 1952-59 Ford HAMB group have used them over the years also,I run a ground wire from the alternator bracket to the frame and the power lead from the alternator to battery positive is a 6 gauge cable.
