A little film you might enjoy

Last weekend Clara (my Model A) and I did the London to Brighton run. This isn't the official one, which is in November and for veteran cars only, but another one organised for vintage, classic, sports and kit cars. It started from the Brooklands museum and finished on the sea front at Brighton. We were the 3rd oldest car on the run and, what with getting to the start, doing the run and getting home again afterwards, we were on the road for the best part of 8 hours. This is by far the longest run I've done since I got her last year and she didn't miss a beat all day, even in the horrific traffic in Brighton. The film is only 4 minutes but hopefully gives a nice flavour of the run.

Makes me want to come over again. Never made it to Brighton. Frinton on Sea and a lot of Kent around Rochester. Quite a bit up north and much time in Scotland. Great roads there, single tracks with well timed passing points. Wonder we Yanks made it, but good fun always.I didn't drive in London. Crazy, much like the states, especially San Francisco. Loved your video.

It can get interesting on the smaller roads as the steering has a bit of play so placing the car very accurately can be a challenge... Trick is to keep the speed down, be ready to stop and enjoy the view!

WOW !!! Really did enjoy the video . Nice phaeton or tourer as the DVLA has put on my V5 .I have the same car but with the small bore English 14.9 HP engine but as the phaeton body is quite light it cruises happily at 40MPH which is OK .The rear end has the small bore 4.55 to 1 ratio so can get down to jogging pace and stay in high gear ideal for country lanes . I see by the bumper clamps your car looks Canadian built so I guess maybe in from the Colonies although the kick guard on the rear wing (fender) looks very South American .

Hi John,

You're right, it is a Canadian built car. It actually spent all of its life in Australia though - apparently the kick guards are a big thing there. It also has a 4 blade fan with cowl, which is apparently another Australian thing. Since owning it I've been in good contact with the Queensland Model A club, who have been helping me to trace a little bit of the history of the car. The centre badge on the badge bar is a Model A club of Queensland badge which they sent me. Although I have the 3.3 litre engine 40-45 is still my happiest cruising speed; above that it all just gets a bit frenetic and the roof flaps about a bit. I think the smaller bore engine is quieter though isn't it? Clara is lovely, but she's not subtle and I have to think very carefully when we meet horses!

Nothing so grand I'm afraid... My wife speeded up the film using her editing software - it would be great if a Model A went round corners like that though, wouldn't it!
