Default best thing to clean running board rubber with ?

Hello all , hope everyone is enjoying the spring weather and getting their A's road ready . Does anyone know the best way to clean the rubber on the running boards . Mine do not look the best and appears to have whiteish spots where things have been set on them . I hope they will clean up .

tried kerosene? use on a small spot to be sure it doesn't curl the rubber.

I don't know if it is the best or not but I use tire cleaner.

Magauir's makes a spray rubber and vinyl cleaner that I scrub the r'bd with using a vegetable brush, then dry with towelling. It comes out really black and clean.

Hot soapy water, a stiff brush & elbow grease. Always worked for me.

I use Surf City Beyond Black on my running boards. It is easy to apply, dries fast, is not sticky and is not shinny but yet it looks good.

I used a black spay paint for vinyl, my rubber had a worn sun bleached look to them. Tire stuff would helped for a day or so and fade. The rubber now looks new and is holding up well and would be easy to redo.

i would not try kerosine, ive been using it as parts washing fluid and any rubber grip tool and my shoes just soak it up like crazy and never seems to dry out so it reeks like kerosine for days. even when you think its gone if it starts to get hot you can start smelling it again.

WD-40 cleans the rubber grips on tools very well.

I have also used WD 40 on the running boards. The first coat I let sit for a day.. I then stiff brush it and wash it off with very warm sudsy water. After dry time I then respray and wipe with soft cloth. I have been asked many times how I get them so nice..

It sounds crazy, but the BEST thing that I have ever found for cleaning black tires and running boards is BLACK STOVE POLISH !
It really dyes the rubber a black, black and lasts forever.
The rear tires on this replica racer were white walls, until one treatment of black stove polish.

source for black stove polish:
try Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware, a wood stove store, or any farm supply store, lots of folks still use this for their woodstoves.
