I have had floats that did not float but the problem seemed to be related to years of sitting dry more than with the quality of the gas. The bad ones I have experienced appeared to have stopped being used years before alcohol.

I've tried several times to remove my fuel gauge over the last 20 years, without success. I tried both types of tools, with hammers, jacks, breaker bars, etc. Nothing works. I've actually seen the whole cowl deform from the force I've exerted on that steel wrench with a bottle jack and steel pipe (so at least I know it's a strong wrench). That gauge is there to stay.

Keep soaking the guage with Kroil or Gibbs. I ahd a very tough one also, but after soaking for a couple days and a lot of forward pressure and a wrench that fit correctly, I was able to get the guage out.

I cant stress enough .... disconnect the battery!!!!
I rebuilt my gas gauge but found the repo parts didnt fit very well, in fact the chrome inner bezel would'nt screw in at all. Replaced the whole gauge with a new repo one, no problems. Oh yeah, and a neoprene float.

What is considered good gas? What brand or station do you buy from? What gas? Low Medium High.

Good gas = gas without ethanol. Check out this web site for a station near you:
http://www.buyrealgas.com/

Alum Creek Marina in Lewis Center, just down south on 71

Thanks Carl, It looks like I would have to drive about 70 miles to get
the good gas. Maybe someday there will be one a little closer to home.
