Default 40 heater head plumbing

I'm working on installing a 40 heater in my flathead 40 coupe.
One of the problems I 've run into is the head outlet, or lack of one.
Both heads only have one threaded outlet per head, and both sides are occupied by temp senders.

What are you experts' thoughts?
Just use one sending unit and hope for the best?
Change heads? (Maybe later, not now)
Scrub the install and have wife buy extra pair of socks? Or stay home?

Thanks in advance!
Bill

Two choices:

1) Replace the passenger side sender with the heater valve. This sender is a two wire hot/cold unit, not a temp sender, so no big deal.
2) Drill & tap the second boss on the passenger side as it was done by Ford Dealers back in the day. Heaters were never factory installed, always by Dealers.

The '40 came from the factory with only one sender, in the left head. Plenty of "correct" cars still being driven that way with no problems. And that port in the right head is the "correct" place to get the heater's feed water. (see V8 Club's 1940 Book, Figure 5-9)

The early 81A head did have just one threaded port each and only the single terminal temperature sender was used on the LH head. An additional port was added to the head, I do not have the date for the addition.

Thanks for the responses.

I'll go with one temp sender driver side, and the heater feed pass. side.

FWIW. there is no second boss next to outlet necks to drill and tap., just smooth. I wish.

When I get to switching to finned heads, I'll have what is needed.

Be sure and save the second unit for the future head change!

The other heater hose comes from the RH lower radiator hose. Routing is this Rh heater hose from the radiator hose goes to the heater's RH most tube. The hose from the shut off valve goes to the other heater tube closer to the Middle of the car or closer to the Driver of a LH drive car.

Rather than cutting and inserting the nipple in the lower rad. hose, can you not use the truck pump (Drake) with the threaded outlet in the body?

Sure, that would work. I have 2 40s with the nipple in the lower hose and never had any problems with it. If you are changing the pumps anyway, that would be a solution.
