Casting flaw?
This is a Diamond Block with a little flaw or is this a Big weld? I never noticed this till I rolled the engine out in the sun.

Re: Casting flaw?
I think it is the parting line between the two halves of the casting mold (cope and drag). Maybe the area was touched up with a grinder.

Re: Casting flaw?
I have several diamond A blocks and each one has really pronounced seams, casting lines and marks. The standard A blocks I have are a much smoother casting. Not sure if it was because the diamond was more often used in an industrial type application and not finished as smoothly or if the casting process was somehow different on the diamond blocks. Just my experience but what I have seen the diamond blocks are like that. I actually used a little jb weld to smooth out some of the flaws on the diamond I just had rebuilt.

Re: Casting flaw?
I think you'll find it's a casting flaw, I do alot of A engines and about all of them have that funny casting. Walt

This illustration shows chaplets in a vertical configuration. They are also used for horizontal alignment. |
