Building Trunks for Model A's Need Venders Please...
I am starting to build the trunks for the Model A's and soon hope to be expanding this to other cars as well. I am having some difficulties finding the 1" x 72" long belts/straps that go around the trunk.
Does anyone know who makes these belts? I see Lebarron Bonney has them but don't want to pay retail as I'd like to make these trunks as cost effective as possible. Does anyone know where Lebarron gets their trunk hardware and belts from? Your help is appreciated Thank you for your time. Bill |

If you are building or if you want to built those trunks (and expanding!!), don't you think that it's up to you to fabricate the belts or let them make somewhere ?

Suggestion...find a local leather or saddle shop in your area and have them make them for you...it would be cheaper in the long run to do so....skip the middle man.

Re: Building Trunks for Model A's Need Venders Please...
My son orders the same leather you are wanting he gets it from Springfield leather in Springfield MO.
Springfieldleather.com 800 668 8518. He uses it for straps it is 1 inch by roughly 72 but lengths vary.it is genuine leather so it is not dyed. If you want to see what he gets I will be working with it today I can take a photo but their web site has it on there also. Hope that helps Last edited by todd3131; 01-28-2018 at 10:44 AM. Re: Building Trunks for Model A's Need Venders Please...
Thank you all for your input but
I have googled antique trunk hardware and talked with all of them. Most all of them sell 60" straps. These trunks require 72" straps. Someone makes them because places like Lebarron/Snyders sell them. So where do they get them from? Yes, I can make them but by the time I buy all the parts, pay all the shipping, invest in tools to make them, not to mention all the time it takes to make them, the cost is less but not that much less. I have plenty to do already so buying a belt already done in a much better option for me. |

Thank you Todd. I use Springfield Leather for all the other leather on the trunks. They are great people. Unfortunately, their quote for the straps for the trunks are higher than everyone else's retail price. Not sure why that is because all the other leather I get from them beets the crap out of every one else's prices.

72" straps only come from LOOOOOOOOOOONG COWS!
Uncle Henry raises a breed called LIMOUZINE, with a LOOOOOOONG body. They came from France, in the 1500s. They bring prices, almost as high as KOBE BEEF! Bill W.

Hi Todd.
Here is his exact quote in bold: Remember, these are complete belts with buckles, holes etc, not just the blank straps. For the 72" × 1" finished belts... Natural veg tan we would be at $35 each and if you decided you want them stained a certain color we can do $40 each. |

Hi Vulture:
I would love to find a leather shop in northern IL that has straps at a good price. I am in Clinton WI. I have attached a picture of the tan strap, but will also need this in black. |

Here are a couple of sites for you...check them out:
www.hideandfur.com www.idaho-leather.com Get some black leather dye and dye them yourself and save on the middle man. Make sure you get the correct thickness (what ever that is for trunks) and not the thin crap. Pluck |

Re: Building Trunks for Model A's Need Venders Please...
We got ours from Snyders @ $30 in black. We couldn't make them or find alternates for that cost. We also found other supplies (except canvas duck with which many trunks were covered) from Antique Hardware and More. They have the 60" belts for $18 ea. and may be OK for certain trunk/rack configurations if the trunks are bolted to the rack , not relying soley on the belts..

Thanks Duke. Hmmm the price I found was 32.50 a belt. Maybe the extra 2.50 was a Wisconsin tax!

Re: Building Trunks for Model A's Need Venders Please...
Mike...I agree. I can get the leather strips for about $7-$8. But I was hoping to NOT have to make them. I have plenty of work to do now. In fact more than I can handle. I was hoping to find the belts already done for around $20-$23.
Basically, I wanted to know who already makes them. LeBarron/Snyders have to get them from someone. See, the cheaper I can build the trunks, the better price you get. |
