Default Bad cam gear now what?

29 mODEL A quit. took off cover and half the teeth were gone. i know this is common. took the nut off and got the bad gear off(fibre) and was ready to put on a aluminum one i had. for the life of me i can not find a mark on the crank gear to line up to the cam gear. washed all the teeth and nothing. what is the sequence for doing it now? do not have a clue. thanks. i tried the archives but did not find something.

It was just down a few threads with a picture I posted. The first tooth clockwise from the crankshaft keyway is the tooth that fits into the cam gear where the dimple is.

Here's the picture again. You shouldn't have to pry the slinger, which you can't do unless you remove the crank nut on the front. Hopefully you can make out the key slot in the slinger.

Thanks Tom. I found the key with the pulley and baffle on. Put the cam gear on on the tooth just to the right(clockwise). everything slid in real nice. Will report after i have it running again. just to make sure i looked at 5 n.o.s. crank gears i have and the mark(circle) is on the tooth just to the right. you just can not see it with the pulley and baffle on. now back to the 34 3 window.
