Default Not "a" ~ but close

A couple of days ago I was "channel surfing" on the television and clicked
onto My Three Sons just as it was starting. There were a couple of episodes that I always remembered with affection. One of my favorites was the one where Chip got a Model "T" doctor's coupe for his birthday.
His father, Steve Douglas, (Fred MacMurray) Bought the car on a nostalgic
whim but Chip was embarrased by the car. He would even park the car
down the street because he was ashamed. I thought it was a car "to die
for" and still love that model. I noticed, however, that the upholstery was
not cloth, but appeared to be leather. I don't think the "T" was leather on
the closed coupes, but since I am not a "T" man, I'll have to rely on the
"Barn" to straighten me out. All ended well with Chip growing fond of the
car in the end------especially since his girlfriend thought it was "cute."
That particular scene with the girlfriend was cut out due to PBS needing
the airtime for pledges. A couple of other scenes ended up on the cutting
room floor, but I had them memorized so it didn't matter.

I probably should have posted this on the "T" forum, but I know that a lot of you have T's. JMHO

Question Re: Not "a" ~ but close

Jack,

I don't remember that episode, but are you shure it was a coupe
and not the early coupolet (spelling?). The coupolet was a convertible
coupe or cabriolet as we "A" guys know them to be. I'm no "T" man, but I think Ford only put them out around 1914-15-16, maybe??? And I would
think it would have a leather interior being a convertable.

It was definitely a hard body coupe, fully enclosed, and was affectionately known as a "doctor's coupe."

Keep in mind, there's no such thing as a "Doctor's Coupe" when pertaining to T's.

Jack,

Yep, the "phone booth on wheels" body style! I like the earlier ones
that had the front opening or "suicide" doors. Thanks for the pic.

Luke, I'll agree with you insofar as Henry never called it a doctor's coupe, but millions of people did-----just like "TIN LIZZIE" was never a reference by Ford, but millions of people have called it that as well. Volo museum, as an example, has one on its site and refers to it as "THE DOCTOR'S COUPE."

Right, Bob, the old phone booth, lol. If you take a good look at it you will be able to see some stagecoach design influences. By the way, the one pictured in my post sold at auction for 6500.00 last year with no reserve. The engine compartment and the other photos were beautiful----including the cloth interior.
