Default Advance and throttle lever stiff.

On my newly acquired 30 Tudor both levers are very stiff to move. I can't feel the notches at all. The PO said the column had been rebuilt not too long ago. Is there any adjustment for tension at the lower end with the springs?

Would oiling the shafts at the top of the column help? I hate to pull it out and go through it if I don't have to.

Thanks!

My 1928 was the same way when I bought it. It still has all the original steering parts, so the top bushing must be slightly swelled. I just kept oiling the levers at the top, and now it moves fine.

My father's town sedan had the same problem when I got it. I did the same as Tom, and it improved just fine.

Always try the simple fix first, in this case a little penetrating oil! Wayne

Yes, oil the rods where they pass thru the top bushing at the steering wheel. It is pot metal and has swelled with age.

Just be sure to NOT use WD-40 as it makes pot metal swell.
