1st welcome to the forum and sounds like a nice present from your uncle.

Here is a opposite example of the comment about long post.
This one is too brief to really understand what he is trying to say

Perhaps he is not an English speaker as a first language? Grammar is hard to figure out too.

That is how it is usually done. You turn in old title they give you a new one in your name and then issue plates.

If you'd like to keep the old title as part of the history of the car, ask the DMV to void the old title so that you can keep it.
I did this in Alaska, and DMV voided it, in REAL SMALL print (very unobtrusive) on the back side.
Of course, Alaska seems to exercise much more common sense than do the DMV's in the lower 48. (I base this on my experiences)

At the very least photocopy the old title front and rear before going to the DMV...

It is hard for us to tell but are you wanting to sell the car or are you just wanting to share about your car? In either case please take some photos and post them along with some more information. By the way where are you SD I was born and raised in the black hills

I would agree with that statement 100%

Hey Sloplane, we do have something in common, when I bought my PU, it was in San Diego & I had it shipped to Alaska. I didn't ask to keep the CA title, but I did keep the CA plates that were on it. Changing the title and registration was a piece of cake. Albeit a $200 piece of cake. I was in and out of the DMV in about 20 minutes (on a slow day).

Don't be ridiculous...

Even the DOG knows you can keep a photocopy for your records!

The car looks to be a 30 car. It would be nice to see what is going on with the radiator, the slope of the hood is off for some reason or am I seeing things?
