Default Dash Panel

I would like to replace the dash panel on my 29 which is looking pretty shabby. Was wondering if I have to rewire gauges or do the trim rings come off allowing the panel to be removed without removing gauges? Also, do the nuts on the face of the gas gauge simply screw off? Looks like those trim rings can be pryed off but I figure it is better to get advice BEFORE breaking something. As usual, all advice appreciated.

Be sure to disconnect the battery, or main fuse if one is installed, before you take the panel off the gas tank. Just in case a wire is loose or you accidentally ground out a hot wire while working in that area you will not have to worry about any sparks being produced. Better safe than sorry. The gas gauge itself should be part of the gas tank and does not come off with the panel. Yes, the gas gauge outer ring threads off and the vendors sell a simple tool set to hold the star shaped plate and the ring that threads off at the same time.

Ammeter, speedometer and key switch unit will be intact with the cover after
the four screws are removed. The gas gauge unit is attached to the fuel tank, it won't have to be removed for cover replacement. Move the cover out enough to remove the speedo cable, and associated wiring to the amp gauge
and key switch unit.

The popout should have one screw that needs to be removed, then you can just loosen the others, twist and pull to remove it from the panel.
