I'm in an area where I have little knowledge, 39 Hyd brakes?? What 5 on 5 1/2 brake drums do I need, and does anyone have a set for sale. what I actually need are 3 on 4 1/2 pattern.

Hey Ron, I think 40 -48 will work , I've got some off a 41 that you're welcome to but but their in washington state. It would cost a fortune to ship them.
What are you building with a bolt pattern like that?

I lke to plan ahead on all my builds and the 5 on 4 1/2 is probably the most common wheel pattern. Also 16 wheels are dine a dozen in the junk yards and the tire company's will be making 16 tires fir the foreseeable furfure. It just makes sense. Street rods are just hotrods that are made form what's available at a reasonable cost. I sold my steel 12 x5 1/2 rims for more money than the aluminum late model rims cost me. The disk brakes I had on the suspension was just too heavy to keep the wheels on the ground.

There were a few different ways to upgrade the brakes on my 40 Ford and I chose to use 56 Ford F100 spindles, backing plates and self energizing brakes. I wanted to use drum brakes and not disc brakes. These are self energizing but not self adjusting. The complete assembly including the spindle will replace all the components on the 40 Ford. I believe the 39 is the same as the 40.

Yes I might go this way in the future, but right now I just want to get it on the track for some test with a new build , it might be to dangerous to park.

Use the f-100s and have the hubs and drums redrilled for the 5 on 4 1/2 pattern.
