31 Deluxe Roadster Cowl Lights?
I am looking at a 31 Deluxe Roadster. Windshield frame is chrome plated, 13.5 in high. Top bows are varnished oak. It does not have spare tires on fender wells, which I understand was an option in 31. It also does not have cowl lights. Were cowl lights standard on 31 Deluxe Roadsters or an option? Can't find anything in judging standards.
Thanks |

Re: 31 Deluxe Roadster Cowl Lights?
Standard 30/31 Roadsters did not come from the factory with cowl lights.
Deluxe 30/31 roadsters did come from the factory with cowl lights. Late 31 Roadsters came with a rear spare tire. No wheel well spares. What you are looking at is a Standard Roadster that has had the original Windshield Stanchions and the Top Assembly removed and replaced with Deluxe Stanchions and Top assembly. Most of the Standard Roadsters have been converted to Deluxe.

Re: 31 Deluxe Roadster Cowl Lights?
Another clue is the seats. If they are original (probably not) the standard has wider pleats than the deluxe.
Very common in the 70's and 80's to make a standard roadster into a fake deluxe. That is why standards are so rare today. |

Re: 31 Deluxe Roadster Cowl Lights?
I'm shrunk down to a tad over 5'10" yet most of my height in in a long torso and short legs. In a deluxe roadster of the 31 variety, when looking straight ahead I see the top of the windshield. I drove one from about 100 miles away to a home near mine and had a sore neck from slouching for about three days. I'd go back to the standard and be thankful the spare is on the rear. Love the standard 31, but own a 29 that is also okay, It does have the dual fender mount tires that I suppose some prior owner thought looked cool. They may look good and were a great addition when driving the old roads but now seem more of a restriction in entering and leaving the car with the top up. I know it is fine with the top down but seldom drive it that way, too hot or cold or the bride complains the wind is messing her hair up.
