Default Merc In Autumn

I like to get the Merc out for some autumn leaf pics every fall and today was the first opportunity when the weather and sky conditions were right. Took a bunch of pictures but this is one of my favourites.

Peak Autumn colors are even better.

Very nice photos. Did you use a filter?

This one was taken with the I phone camera and then I use Adobe "lightroom" program to enhance the light and colours. It can take an ordinary photo and really make something out of it.

"Enhanced" colors aside, I like your composition, Ralph. Nice, natural "frame", utilizing
the over-hanging trees, and the "tracks" leading to your car.

Well done!

Ralph: Another postcard moment, I love the patina on your Merc, it just looks right. I also look at your YouTube channel regularly.

That 53 engine sits on the stand with oil in the cylinders in hopes it will un-seize but I'm really not too hopeful. Same with the 49 Merc truck. I think its been 3 years soaking for that one. Still solid stuck.

"Wheat Province" on the tag.

Great shot, made better.

Have you considered the valves & cam being stuck.

I suspect pretty well every moving part on that engine could be rusted and seized. When I got the car the heads and intake were in the trunk. Although the hood was on the car it likely did not keep blowing snow out of the engine. The oil pan did not have any water in it though.

I love that pic of your merc Ralph. Fall comes a bit later down here and your photo makes me think of my favorite season. Thanks for sharing! And as for the stuck engine, I read here on the barn about a rolled up piece of corrugated cardboard in each of the 8 holes, fill with diesel and set on fire. I like to top them off with marvel mystery oil once the flame is good and hot. Couple cycles of this and I have never missed. My two best running engines were freed this way. Just a thought for a late fall weekend project.

I actually watched a video on youtube of a guy using the fire method to free up an old tractor engine. Advantage there was it was a vertical four cylinder. This V8 would have to be done in two stages I think. I'd have to wait for the snow before I try it anyway. It is so dry here we have a fire ban on the whole municipality.

There was a thread on the H.A.M.B. where a guy filled the valley of a V8 with charcoal and when it got going good, covered it with a piece of sheet metal and let it go until it burned itself out. I guess it worked fine. Thinking outside the box.

An added advantage is that you could do some burgers at the same time!
