Setting Liquid Level in 34 Hyrdostatic Fuel Gauge
I guess I should have started a new thread rather then continuing my old one from last year, as people read the first post and think I still want to talk about how to clean my hydrostatic fuel gauge. I have now cleaned up my Hydrostatic Fuel Gauge and am ready to reinstall. I bought red gauge fluid from Classic and Exotic. Now I'm ready to reassemble. My question is - how much red liquid to put into the gauge? When I first started investigating this, I picked up the enclosed pages on the Barn. These seem to indicate that you should set the red liquid level to minimum in the gauge and that it will adjust itself as you drive the car. My gas tank is currently full, not empty. Does anyone have experience on where to set the liquid level to start with when reassembling a hydrostatic fuel gauge?

Re: Setting Liquid Level in 34 Hyrdostatic Fuel Gauge
With two gallons in the car as a safety margin set it at empty ,you can make it start working by disconnecting the flex line to the pump and blowing back to the tank this will create bubbles under the cups and make it work, or you just drive it and the sloshing of the gas will make it work . You could set it at full then as it gets low on gas check it with a stick , remove any red liquid that's excess. Carry a spare gal of gas with you .Ted
