40/41 pickup front fender bracing

Had this brace on the front fender. Internally - large side against inside of fender closest to frame. Small side unattached. Does this look "familiar" or is this something someone added? If incorrect what is the intended "stock/correct" bracing for front fenders? Thanks for your time.
