Gas Gauge Float Rod
I'm restoring my '31 Closed Cab Pickup. The original gas tank was completely rotted out. I found a real solid replacement tank but the rod for the gas gauge float is rusted thru so part of it is missing. I will make a new rod out of stainless and weld it on close to the pivot part of the gauge. My question is how long was the original rod from the pivot to the ninety degree bend where the float is attached. Thanks, Dave

Re: Gas Gauge Float Rod
I don't know if this helps much...
The cotter pin box resting against the float is 3 3/16" long.... Might get you in the ballpark if no one else has more info.... Also the gauge is out of a 29....

Re: Gas Gauge Float Rod
i had mine out a couple weeks ago. i would say around 8 inches. but stick a tape measure in there and that will be your limit. If your off it wont affect the reading much.

Re: Gas Gauge Float Rod
Even later gas gauges are NOT too accurate ! ! That was always one of my pet PEEVES! The ones with a "LOW FUEL" light, sensed by a tube, are generally reliable.
On a Model A, if the float is adjusted to touch the top of the tank, when showing "F", when it shows "E", it will have about a GALLON left. Bill W.
