Model A rear spring - help?
Is there someone who can help locate a new rear spring with reversed eyes for a 1930 coupe - fronts I can find, but no one seems to know of a company that maker reversed eye rears. ALSO... if I were to locate one, a model A rear spring spreader will not work on this - any suggestions????????????

Steve, I have no idea where you live but a buddy made up some clips that allow a regular rear spring spreader to handle reverse eye springs.

Re: Model A rear spring - help?
you may need to try to reverse it yourself. Hammer or press I've seen it done both ways. I have done my front spring with a hammer and a piece of 3 or 4 inch channel and hammer, hammer, hammer.
I was told to and installed a model T rear spring. It will drop the back 1-3 inches, depending on roadster or sedan. |

No need for a spreader. Dismantle the spring carefully, install the main leaf on its own with a G clamp, and reassemble the pack on the installed main leaf. All you need is two 8" G clamps.
Main leaf can be reshaped to reverse shape with a 10lb hammer, but a hydraulic bottle jack is much easier. And an awful lot quieter! Go to the Hamb, do a search, and you'll find pics and detailed instructions. |

Re: Model A rear spring - help?
I installed a T rear spring in my A pickup years ago. They are shorter, narrow, and therefore weaker but the shortness means you have to stretch them more to install, this lowers the car which is what I believe you are after? On my tudor I merely removed 3 leaves but it is important to retain the top leaf as it is rounded to fit the crossmember.
