Tips for removing axle keys?

Want to lap the hub to the axle and I tried a few things (Tapping screw driving under it and tapping one end to get the other to lift) to get the axle key out of the axle, but it didn't get it out. I didn't want to get to aggressive until I searched here.

Any tips/tricks that worked for you?

Tried grabbing it with Vise grips? Just tapping in inboard should get some movement. Or prying it outboard from the axle tube end.

get a large pair of dikes (side cutting plires). squez cutting jaws on end key. press down on handles. lifting key up

Try tapping it back and up at the same time with a center punch.

X2 - this is the correct way that I was taught to remove any key or key stock.

if you only want to remove and not reuse try a 4" grinder with a slitting disc cut a slot lenghtways down the key then weld the slot up and let it cool down should shrink it enough to just tap it out if it dosent fall out on its own
