Wavecrest 2017

Attended Wavecrest woodie show in Encinitas,CA for the first time. Met Forbarner Bill from Nova Scotia. Road in 3 different woodies on tour from Encinitas to Oceanside. Got to see the progress on my 41 wood by Ron Heiden in Vista,CA. Met a Kiwi that had a RHD 46.

Was good to meet you Phil! Just fell out of bed 20 minutes ago after along long flight home. I have some pics to upload including one of the RHD Ford. Perhaps later today. In the meantime I'm dealing with some jetlag but it was a great show as always... Bill

Most interesting car IMHO was an early 53 Ford woodie with real wood in like new condition.

I believe '51 was the last year Ford used any wood on the wagons. Are you sure the '53 had wood ? I thought it was some material that was molded and finished to look like wood. Like the Tin Woody Chevrolets and Pontiacs of the early 50's.

I wonder how many of those Woodies were once part of the Nick Alexander Collection???

My understanding is that most of Nick's cars disappeared into other collections. Generally the cars that show up at Wavecrest are driven on a regular basis. Some are less than perfect but that doesn't stop the owners from enjoying them.

The '53 has real wood. That was my fave car there. Really nice. The owner of the Marmon Herrinton 46 Merc, drove to Wavecrest in the rain on Thursday! The 40 convert was trailered down by Jamie from Nick's shop.
Bill and Mr. Texas, would have been fun to meet you guys. Always a great show, excellent weather, venue, and friends.
Will you guys be coming up to Woodies on the Wharf next year?

Ford did use some wood (outer trim pieces) on the wagons as did Mercury. I think Ford stopped using any wood before Mercury in those years.
