We have some 32 Houdaille shocks that need a rebuild , the fronts came apart easily ,I noticed the shaft was a little worn so would a speedy sleeve fix this?
The rears are a swap meet find and are frozen , I think what I thought were rears may be fronts as the arms are the same as what we have on the front, so may need the correct rear arms(good luck on that one) I have not rebuilt a Houdaille shock before , I know there are links to a rebuild and some make it seem somewhat daunting. Anyone know who sells a master rebuild kit for 32 shocks? I notice the shaft seal is what appears to be a single lip type seal. Are model A kits the same as this is an early 32 which has no “K” legs on the straight crossmember like a later 32 . Last edited by my4dv8; 09-21-2018 at 03:40 AM. |

Are they the early manually adjustable version like the one in the photo below (on the left) or the later thermostatically controlled version like the photo on the right? If they are the former, the Model A components may work. No one has ever offered a rebuild kit for the latter type.

If the shaft wobbles most likely it will not be a good candidate for rebuilding to full proper function, I have done a shocks, some wear at the seal area usually isn't a problem if the area is smooth, the kits that I had came with seals of different thicknesses, the cover is screwed down to compress the seal, different thicknesses were chosen to have the filler up
The left front, right rear on model a were the same, not sure on 32, under the 2 sided plug is adjusting screw Search on the "A"side for shocks, much there |

In the process of rebuilding as well and the biggest issue is getting them apart. Lots of heat on a bbq with the fill plugs out. Need to clean up the 6 I have apart to see where I go from there. From the research I did, Model A rebuild kits will work in the 32 shocks but stand to be corrected.
