Default Rear main seal on 272 engine

I am changing the rear main seal on my 1955 sedan with a 272 engine while it is still in the car.
I am using a black neoprene Fel-Pro 2 pc seal and the side seal will have nails.
I have read differing opinions on the use of RTV on the " BACK " of the two pc seal.....One article said no RTV on the back of the seal , just RTV where the two seal half`s meet and on the retainer where it comes in contact with the block and a little RTV in the side holes before pushing in the side seals and nails.
IS RTV NEEDED ON THE BACK SIDE ON THE TWO PC MAIN SEAL ?
Thanks'

having done a number of Y block rear main seals successfully, I have NEVER put RTV or any other sealant on the back side of the neoprene, two piece seal. No leaks.

Others may differ...
