Default Where to buy .050+ stromberg jets.

Hey guys, i usually only post on the A forum, but I figured id ask this question here. Ive recently put together my A motor again, and i put a real hot cam in it. I put my stromberg 48 on it, and ive been having problems getting it jetted up enough. The mains right now are .051, and its still running lean at road speed. Ive been searching online for a couple weeks and i cant seem to find anywhere that sells jets bigger than .050. If no body makes the bigger jets, could someone post the drill bit sizes, and what they equal as far as jet size so i can drill mine out. I had a sheet with all that info on it, but i misplaced it somewhere and cant seem to find it.

Logan ,here is a drill size chart. Jets are usually number drills.#55 drill is .052"

I have been told jets should be reamed, drills are too inaccurate.

If I were you I would also increase the size of the power valve to maybe a #60 and try .053 jets. I'll look and see what I have. be back. ken ct.

Logan: I have a bunch of drilled out jets, like drilled way out, for when I was running alcie with natraits, there to good to through away...I'll send you a hand full, and you can solder up and drill to what ever you want, you pay for the ride, or trade for jets for holly carb. I would first go with Ken,CT said to try and see if it runs better ?? .....OLD....BILL

Ken, I'll look into it. I don't know what size is in it now, I'll have to look. Jon thank you for the chart. And bill if It comes down to it, I'll contact you. I may want to have a few extras laying around that are different sizes.

I have some questions----How has it been determined to be "running lean at road speed"??

If the fuel bowl is staying full, and the carb functioning correctly, where is all the extra air getting into the intake system?

Drilling jets is an art. In the old days reamers were available in .001 increments. The finish size should be accomplished with a minimum of material being removed. I won't talk about flow testing but just drilling jets can lead to inaccuracy.

I agree. I think something besides the jet size isn't right if a 4 banger is sucking a 48 dry.

By the way, I have a Stromberg WW that has .054 jets, so they do exist.

Are you gravity feeding the gas? If so you may want to open the .098 hole in the needle valve. This hole is to limit the flow a 4 lbs pressure and with no pressure you don't get much flow through that restrictor. G.M.

I have a fuel pump. I have a full race cam in this motor, and oversized intake valves. I'm reading plugs, that's how I've determined it lean, but I am in the process of installing a air/fuel meter in the exhaust right now. This isn't a stock banger by any means.

Logan:

Did you perform a "choke test"? If it seems to be starving at high revs, pull the choke a bit and see if it recovers.

Just for knowing, of the drilled jets, in the stake I find a 68, several 62,63, and several 56. and 58's all original marking, as for the drilling I was look for as much flow I could get, for a short blast down the drag strip, and not for a drive around town,,,, looking at all the jets, is like trip down memory lane....silly ...OLD....BILL

It runs fine, there is no stumbling or backfiring. It is just running to lean according to plug color. Robert would you want to sell those .056 jets?
