Default Water pump installation

Does it matter if the new pump gaskets go on dry, with some grease on each side? What's everyone's take on installing new pumps and gaskets on a 59ab motor?

I've always done exactly what you suggest. Just start-out with CLEAN surfaces. DD

On mine, I made sure the area was clean and free of any previous gasket material. Afterwards, I applied a thin layer of Permatex 2 on both sides of the gasket. Steve

The problem with that is I doubt you can reuse the gasket. High
temp grease works really good. As mentioned make sure surfaces
or clean. G.M.
