Default New to fordbarn, building a 28 AA, kind of.

Hello,
I am new here and just wanted to post my project. A few years ago I bought an early 1928 AR 1.5 ton, problem was it was basically a rolling chassis, or full running gear you could say that had all the sheet metal parts removed to use on another project. I was given a set of 31 car fenders with it, and a couple other odds and ends parts. I really like to take things that are destined for the scrap yard and make them go again so I enlisted the help of my Dad, and we started to collect part to put it back together again. We decided we were going to do a "rustoration " on this and try to make it look like an old farm truck that was put away in a barn and forgotten about years ago, so none of the sheet metal parts are being restored or re painted. Also after a lot of looking, and not finding a decent cab for a decent price, we decided to build a wooden cab. We figured this would be one more way to make it one of a kind. We are trying to have it on the road for the 175 year celebration of the town I live in this June.

Here is a pic of it when I got it, I will also post a couple of it now getting fairly close to being drivable.
All questions and comments are more than welcome.
Thanks.

I love the house door knob on the wooden cab. Nice touch. Keep the pictures coming as you progress. Looks good!

Cool project, great you can get some old cast-a-way back on the road. 8^)

I like it. You can always go to the local antique store and buy the deluxe glass knob.

Looks like a fun project. Consider a 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and turpentine on your cab wood.

. . . AND check out 1crosscut's profile ALBUMS for some great ideas around preserving your panel patina. Dave is too modest to blow his own trumpet!

Luke! Glad to see you're starting on the project. Granted my restoration was an A, don't hesitate to stop in or call with questions. By the way, I can recommend someone that does a great job painting frames!! (For the rest of the Barn, Luke's Dad painted my frame and some of my larger parts chassis parts)

Thanks to everyone for the comments, it is nice to know that other people like my ideas like the house door knobs,

Dave, I wondered if you or Bob were on here, I was gonna email you both pics when I had it far enough along to roll it outside and get some better pictures.

And Hoogah, I did check out 1crosscut's album, what a beautiful truck, I love preserving the original finish as much as possible.

We are looking for someone old weathered boards to make a new flatbed and removable stake sides for it, we would like repurposed lumber, as that is what we have used so far, as of right now we have not bought a single stick of lumber for this project, all used lumber. If we can't find used, we are at least gonna try to find somewhere to buy rough cut lumber.

Thanks again to everyone, I will post some more pics soon, when we get the windshield in, and get our rear brakes so we can put the rear wheels on and roll it outside.

I will attach a couple pics of the metal roof we used, maybe someone will know what it was off of, it was the correct width for our roof at the top of the windshield, but we narrowed it about a foot at the rear of the cab. The front was already bent like that, and we left it, kinda thought it looked good there.
