Default 56 dash removal

How had is it to pull the dash on a 56 courier? Right now it is stripped of everything as in the process of rebuilding the car. Looks fairly simple but do not want to get into something that will be a headache. Thanks

If it's anything like a 56 Bird, then it's fairly easy as long as you get all the screws and bolts out and all wires disconnected. Just slide it back to you once everything is unbolted. Naturally, the steering column has to be removed.

There is one bolt at the bottom of the dash that connects it to the side of the cowl (on each side of the dash). All the rest are at the top.
After removing the garnish mouldings, you will see several 5/16" hex head screws down in the defrost gutter space all across the top of the dash close to the windshield.
Of course, you will need to remove the two long philips head screws that hold the steering column bracket to the dash. Be sure to remove the bracket cover first so you dont damage the Fordomatic selector needle under that cover when removing the dash.
Make sure all your wiring, heater control cables, speedo cable and other stuff coming thru the firewall has been disconnected/removed before attempting to remove dashboard.
You may want to get a second person involved in holding the dashboard securely in place while you are trying to remove the last screw holding the dash in place, so that you don't strip out the hole at that last screw.

Thanks, sounds straight forward. The whole car is stripped right now for body work so nothing in the way. Good to know not hard as it will be lot easier refinishing the dash once out then trying to do it in the car.
