I have a generator that has 2 wires instead of the single post that the cutout connects to. One of the wires is slightly thinner than the other. Does one of the wires get grounded to the body of the generator? If so which one? Or do they both get connected to the cutout? Thanks for all the help, in the past and also in the future.

You have a Model B generator and one of the wires is the field ground wire and gets screwed under the cutout mounting screw. You need to remove the band and see which wire leads to the field winding, The other field winding wire leads to the adjustable brush. You can just push and pull a little on the wire and see which one is moving inside the case.

The other wire is the output wire and connects to the insulated output brush. This wire of course goes to the cutout input side.

Tom, just a clarification...... one wire goes to the ground under the cutout mounting screw, and the other wire (from the adjustable brush) is attached to the "ARM" side of the cutout? Then that leaves the terminal on the other side of the cutout for the battery wire, etc.?

No, reread my post above.

Yes, the other cutout terminal leads to the ammeter, then to the battery.
