There is a ad on the Facebook marketplace for a 66 T-Bird. Listed for $12,000. but looks like it is complete and drive-able. Might be cheaper than the $1000 basket case.

Just looked up ad for the Bird. It is a Town Landau- same body style as you tried to look at. Car appears several times showing Shawnee, OK and Bartlesville, OK. for locations. Price is listed from $10,000 to $12,500. Sounds like she wants to sell it pretty bad. She also has some other stuff listed so she may buy and sell. I bought a 65 Special Landau new and drove it for several years. Loved that car.

If you're really set up to do restoration work, and want a show car, it could be a great project. If not, it's probably less money to buy a presentable driver as CrownVic55 said.

I bought a '65 last year for not much money, but it literally took years of looking online to find a reasonably solid driver with a good drive train (that mostly needs just cosmetics) at that price.

Sorry about the pointless trip, though. I almost bought another out of state T-Bird last year where the seller tried to misrepresent the title status, so I feel your pain.

Does this guy own the car, and the shop? It would be a long time before I drove that far again to see it. I see some pretty nice driver 65 and 66s here in Fl for 5-6K.

I owned a 64 T-bird and finally sold it. They can be a hand full to maintain. If I had it to do over, I would get rid of the Cruise-O-Matic and convert it to a C6. At least the 66 had a better power steering pump but it may still have the hydraulic windshield wiper. I had problems with those too. Working on the air conditioning and vacuum systems was a nightmare.
