Dsitributor Sight Glass Drip Oiler

Has anyone adapted a sight glass type drip oiler to a Model "A" distributor? If so, please post some pictures with an explanation of the hardware.

I would think that would be an unnecessary modification. It is good to open the hood once in a while to check the oil level and use the drip off the dipstick for the distributor and generator.

I have not done it yet but like Franklin said, it really is not that necessary because you don't need to oil it often. You would have to find one that is a press in that is the right size or turn it down in a lathe. The ones I have seen are too big, and having a constant supply to the bushings might be a bad thing as excess can creep out from the top of the shaft and splatter on the plates and points.

It makes sense,little lubrication gets beyond the oillite bushing to the distributor shaft.Wouldn't be hard to rig one up,a 30.06 casing would be interesting

Why not just replace the upper shaft with one that has the hole already in it.

I am a tinkerer, and I enjoy making changes to improve my Model A's. Maybe a drip oiler makes no sense to some, but it does to me. In my opinion, the Model A is ripe for tinkering with.
The shafts in my distributors have been drilled to lube the upper bushings but in my experiences, weeping a tiny bit of oil onto a shaft that turns up 1500 rpm is not a practical idea. I also think that the stock oiler is inadequate to lubricate the lower shaft bushing.

Whatever happened to following directions.

The manual is very clear. Fill the dist to the top of the oiler. This makes sure the upper bushing is lubricated.

If you just drip oil then you may not be putting enough oil in to be sure the upper bushing is lubricated.

Unless the drip oiler is shut off when the car is parked for extended periods, like overnight or longer, it's going to put too much oil into the distributor.

Putting too much oil isnt a bad thing,distributor shafts rust from condensation and lack of lubrication.
