Default never seen this before!

I went to a cruise last Fri. 450 cars. In comes a nice custom pickup street rod made from several different vehicles. It has a 5.4 Ford engine without fuel injection, instead he has 4 94's on a home made manifold. Ok so far but what is that distributor mounted to the drivers side head? I first noticed the crab cap and then figured out that it is an 11a distributor. He had blocked off the vacuum brake and otherwise it is a stock distributor. I didn't get to talk to the owner as much as I would have liked but hope to see him again. He did say he just wanted to get rid of all electronics and found the distributor on ebay. He said he had no idea what it was from and was very interested to see the same unit on my flathead. It was mounted directly to the front of the head and must be keed directly to the cam.
I hope to talk to him again and get more info. Stay tuned.
regards, Don

For not knowing what he had, he wound up with the best.

That is the main reason I always drove a ford product, The interchangeability and adaptability, never left me stranded, except for an old Merc. that we filled the combustion chambers with brazing rod, when one turned loose there wasn't a lot left to talk about.

Interesting Don.I would just like to go to a local cruise in and see a Ford engine instead of a 350 in a Ford.

I totaly agree 37, at that same cruise there is a beautiful 1950 Cadillac with a small block Chevy in it. I personally think the old Cad engine is a much better looking engine and makes the restoration more authentic. BUT it's not my car and he is very happy with it.

37don, my gut feeling is he's an outside-the-box rat rodder with a penchant for surviving an EMP. (Electro-magnetic pulse from nuke detonation and degrades electronic function).

How about a '37 Chebb coupe with a turbo charged 292 GMC. Out of the box thinking like 6 cylinders.

I loved the sound of those GMC engines on the stock car track. Like a flathead, they have a sound all their own.

Admiral, back in the 50's a friend who is in the Me. stork car hall of fame, use to run a 37 flathead bored to 239ci, he would put to heads a coal fired furnace, got them pretty hot and would melt 2 sticks brazing rod in each chamber, mill the heads to flatten em. He would screm that flathead, won a lot of races. Walt
