Default 1949 ford f-1 fiberglass fenders

I'm putting fiberglass front fenders on my 49 f-1 and having trouble. There is a 1/4" gap between the upper fender and the grill valance. Is there a gasket supposed to go there? I already ripped the bolts through them once over tightening them.

That is the problem with fiberglass fenders. If the maker takes them out of the mold too quickly after the resin sets, it will tend to warp. The resin takes days to fully harden and in a fast paced production shop, they don't get the time to fully cure.
My driver's side didn't fit worth beans, on the bottom. I had to build up the fender with resin and cloth.

Yes, there is a strip of anti-squeak between the fenders and the grille parts. It is maybe 1/8" thick before being tightened down. Best to glue it on, it was stapled to the steel fenders. Dennic C sells it.

I had to work on the area around my headlight doors to get a proper fit. Glass won't bend as easily as steel where there is a thick flange like that.

I used many small C-clamps to slowly bring parts together.

'glass, like steel, doesn't like to be stressed. It'll crack over time if it is, especially if trying to pull it that far. You may have some underlying panel fitment on adjacent panels causing the gap. If none, build the gap up and use longer bolts
