Default Another gripe about repo parts.

I ordered a pair of repo window regulators and the channels that attach to the bottom of the glass for the doors in my 28 tudor. The ones that turned up were Vintique brand, and I thought that's good, Vintique seems to be OK. They were labelled correctly for 28-29 tudor.... good. When I compared them against my rusted out and broken originals they looked quite different. I thought that no-one will see them anyway, so they will do. Being in New Zealand, it's a bit of a mission to return something!
Well, to make them work I had to remove about 1/8" from the standoffs, I had to reshape the actuating levers, both of these mods just so the glass wouldn't hit the mechanism. I also had to grind the head off the rivet that holds the lever to the toothed quadrant to clear the glass.
Finally got them to work, but the action is jerky and stiff, not smooth.
Also the Vintique interior door handle escutcheons in no way fit over the door handle actuating rod.....
I fail to understand why, if a manufacturer is going to the trouble of re-popping a part, then surely it's no more difficult to make it correctly than it is to make it incorrectly.

There.... I feel better now....

YA RIGHT!

Vintique stuff working!

I got the slant window cabriolet door rubber and dovetail kit.

NOTHING was close to correct.

They did send me some rubber bumpers that look close to correct, but have no hope of fitting.

I know what you mean about repro parts. Most don't fit or look right. That is why I try, if at all possible, to find original parts and restore them. You know they will fit right and look right. I have had several Vintique parts that were not so good. Why can't model A parts supplier make parts correctly - cost?? It seems A&L is the only vendor that seems to care about making parts correctly.

There was an excellent article in the Fall 2006 Model A Times regarding window regulators. They recomended the Snyders manufactured version as being far superior to the Vintique manufactured one.

With the price on used originals on e-bay and other places, why did you not get some used ones and rebuild them? Rod

this is a recurring topic here. what I don't understand is, since people have access to the original engineering prints---something I never would have guessed years ago---how can these situations arise? I mean, if you only had a worn original sample, I could understand how reproduced parts would be shaky. But what better could you do other than hand whoever makes these parts the original plan?

I will have to say "AMEN" to that.

My truck had fairly new Vintique regulators in it when I bought it. They didn't work worth a darn. Bought a set from Snyders and they work like they should.

Most logical answer I can think of to order substanard parts even though it seems that the "DRIVER" cars are the ones that spend the most time on the side of the road waiting on help. Rod
